Chronicle of a Blood Merchant by Yu Hua
Majority except one enjoyed reading book. Discussion centered around speculating what China is like today...based on one members visit 10ish years before and two documentaries that another member saw. And that this was written like a Chinese opera, folk tale, legend and whether the characters were flat or fully realized. I didn't read afterword...it contained lots of good stuff that helped you understand novel and author...so if you didn't read it ... do so. One of his influences was SINGER...that's when I misspoke. I felt that the novel reminded me of legends--folktale with repetition, three sons, one of whom was very good, ...it felt like Fiddler on the Roof....written not by Singer, however, Sholem Aleichem.
